You should be able to work out a weekly figure at eleven o’clock at night without giving anybody your phone number.
Every rate below is real and current. There is no assessment fee, no registration fee, no minimum contract term, and no charge for changing your caregiver.

An honest warning about 24-hour care. Round-the-clock private care runs to roughly $XX,XXX a year. For many families that is more than a Type B supportive living placement, and there is a point at which continuing at home is a choice being made for emotional reasons rather than practical ones. That is a legitimate choice. We will just make sure you are making it with the real numbers in front of you.

What you can claim back
None of this is tax advice, and thresholds change every year. Check with an accountant or at canada.ca. But three things are worth knowing before you assume the sticker price is the real price.
Medical expense tax credit
Attendant care paid to a care agency is generally an eligible medical expense on a federal return. The rules on how much can be claimed depend on whether the disability tax credit is also being claimed, which is where most families get it wrong. Keep every invoice.
Disability tax credit
If your parent is markedly restricted in dressing, feeding, walking or mental functions, they may qualify. It requires a form certified by a medical practitioner and can be back-dated. It also unlocks other programmes.
Canada caregiver credit
Claimed by the family member supporting a dependant with a physical or mental impairment. Often missed by adult children who are already paying for care out of their own pocket.
