When your mother does not want a stranger in the house

When your mother does not want a stranger in the house

The most common reason care does not start is not money. It is that the person who needs it says no. That is a reasonable thing to say, and we do not push.

Start somewhere else

The first visits are usually built around something that is not personal care: a meal, a walk, the laundry, a drive to the pharmacy. Your mother meets a person, not a service. Personal care starts once she knows the caregiver’s name and face. It is slower. It works far more often than sending someone in on day one to run a bath.

Introduce, do not announce

We introduce the caregiver by name, in person, before the first shift, with you there. Nobody arrives unannounced. If the match is wrong, say so and we rematch at no cost.

The same face

Continuity is the whole answer here. A rotating roster means explaining the routine again every week and never getting past the stranger stage. One primary caregiver, backed by a small team who have also met your mother, is how trust actually forms.

Start with a conversation, not a contract.

A care manager comes to the house, looks at the real situation, and gives you a written plan and a weekly cost. It is free, it takes about an hour, and there is nothing to sign.
